Malaysians Not Feeling Erykah Badu’s ‘Allah’ Tattoo; Gov’t Cancels Her Pending Show

Neo-Soul legend Erykah Badu isn’t likely to perform in Malysia for a scheduled concert because a tattoo on her shoulders bearing the name ‘Allah’ in  Arabic offended the powers that be in the Muslim nation.

The American R&B singer was scheduled to perform Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur, but some Muslim groups said Badu was an unsuitable role model for young Malaysians after seeing a publicity photo of her with what appeared to be temporary tattoos of the word Allah on her bare shoulders.

A government committee that includes police and Islamic policy officials decided to forbid Badu’s show because the body art was “an insult to Islam and a very serious offense,” Information Minister Rais Yatim said in a statement.

The photo of Badu had “triggered public criticism that could jeopardize national security and cause a negative impact to the government’s image,” the statement added.–NBC Washington

This is just the latest self-defeating debacle that the once-vaunted and revered singer has gotten herself into. Just a couple of years ago, Badu sparked outrage when she ran through the downtown streets of her native Dallas nude while filming a video.

Tyler Perry’s ‘Good Deeds’ Snags #2 Box Office Spot

Tyler Perry’s latest film, Good Deeds, took the #2 box office spot over the weekend. The film, which stars a hetero-channelling Tyler Perry in the main role, and also Thandie Newton, Gabrielle Union and Phylicia Rashad, earned $15, 583,924 for its opening. This all proves once again that Black folks love them some Tyler Perry movies. And that’s a good thing for TP because if Black folks stop liking his movies, there would be a lot of empty theater seats anytime a TP movie drops.

Meanwhile, TP has long wanted to shed his Madea gowns for more serious acting fare and Deeds aims to help him move in that direction.

I didn’t see the film but feel free to leave feedback if you did.

When Divorce Makes More Sense: Man Kills Wife With AK-47

The husband is claiming he accidentally shot his wife early in the morning while showing her his shiny AK, but cops have charged the man in his wife’s death.

Family members of the couple are said to be in shocked disbelief and a family friend told Nancy Grace she doesn’t believe the husband would kill his wife intentionally because he “loved her so much”.

But police have also said there may be a history of alleged domestic violence in the marriage. Reportedly, the couple’s small child was bathing in the tub when the shooting occurred.

Cash Money Records Is Turning Into An Old Timers Club

If you haven’t already heard, 90s alternative Hip Hop Rock group Limp Bizkit has jumped down with Cash Money Records. And somebody threw in former Murder Inc. songstress Ashanti in as part of some sort of two-for-one deal I guess? But on the real, is it my imagination or is Cash Money Records turning into a rest home for has beens, also rans and over the hill rappers and singers? Busta Rhymes and Mystikal and now Limp Bizkit and Ashanti. Busta and Mystikal are past their prime; nobody even remembers Limp Bizkit; and Ashanti, bless her beautiful heart, still can’t sin worth a damn. Who told her to cover a Whitney Houston track?

At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if Baby decided to sign Kurtis Blow, Paul Simon and the B-52s next.

Shawty Lo Drops Two New Tracks, But Has G Unit Forgot About Him??

When 50 Cent signed Bankhead baron Shawty Lo to his G-Unit label, expectations were high that Lo was about to crossover into more mainstream, commercial success.

About a year later, here are these two tracks, which dropped over the weekend I guess. No hate, but Lo didn’t need G-Unit to drop these tracks, which are aiight but not fantastic. And I’m wondering what is G-Unit planning on doing with Lo, since right about now, Lo is just a song or two away from being on a Hip Hop milk carton.

Shawty Lo is cool as a fan but, ummm, he needs to tell 50 Cent to seriously step his game up on the label boss tip. That man is doing absolutely nothing to help Lo’s languishing career. Don’t you think so too?

Did Whitney Houston’s Family Overreact To Casket Photo??

The National Enquirer doesn’t play. They get their shit, come hell or high water. Most celebs know that so that’s why so many stars spend a lot of time trying to discredit the decades old tabloid because they know the NE is capable of digging up all the dirt they want.

But last week’s blockbuster cover featuring the late Whitney Houston’s body in repose stirred lots of emotions. Some people say the NE seriously crossed the line; others say the public had a right to see those pics. After all, folks say, Whitney’s fans enjoyed her life–why not the share in mourning her death?

I say Whitney looked stunningly, breathtakingly beautiful in her coffin. I’ve never seen anybody look that good dead in my entire life.

I also say that somebody got paid for those pics. And I also say if Whitney’s family was smart, they would have sold the damn photos themselves and scapegoated the funeral home…

…Hmmmm…
