Eminem And Yelawolf Share A VIBE Cover; Address N-Word Controversy

Eminem and his most promising artist, Yelawolf, share the year-end issue of VIBE Magazine. Supposedly, this is the first joint interview for the two Shady Records rappers.

In the new issue, which hits stands Dec. 6th, Eminem and Yelawolf discuss their music–but also touch on a hot button issue: Race and Hip Hop, and the use of the N-word by White rappers:

When Yelawolf heard the presumptu- ous white female rapper V-Nasty was peppering her sarcastic raps with the N- word, he called it embarrassing, telling VladTV that an N-bomb-dropping white rapper might find themselves “slapped up, and it might be by a white boy.” While he admits to using the word as a child, he says the word term is off limits for any white person, rapper or otherwise.

“[In Alabama] we have a dark his- tory concerning the relationship be- tween Black and white people. I’m not a role model by any means, but if I said it around the house I got popped in the mouth,” he says, noting that his Black friends used the word as a term of endearment for him as well.–(VIBE)

Its no surprise that Eminem stayed away from this N-word drama, especially considering his controversial history with the term. Remember that tape that then-Source Magazine head honcho Benzino released that featured Em reciting some very racist rap, which included a verse in which he called Black people porch monkeys”? That was before Eminem hit it really big in Hip Hop, of course.

Michael Vick Covers UPTOWN Magazine

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick snagged another magazine cover and will be featured in the upcoming issue of ‘UPTOWN’ Magazine.

The publication shared part of its interview with Vick and, as expected, Vick talked about his rebirth, how he couldn’t get shit done in Atlanta , and his hopes for the future.

Its funny how Vick likes to tell everybody that Atlanta was so detrimental to him evolving into a better player and yet these days, he’s been playing worse than he ever did as a Falcon.

“I am determined to become a better student of the game and I knew I had to work at it,” says Vick. “I was young when I was in Atlanta. I’m older now. I’ve been through a lot and I think I’ve matured. I had some good years there, but I’m just so thankful to be in Philadelphia right now. I could not have landed in a better city. This is my home. This is where I want to be, and I take this opportunity seriously.”

“I play the game the way I know how to play it,” Vick tells UPTOWN, after the magazine spent months trying to negotiate an interview. He’s understandably cautious about whom he talks to and what he says.

“You have to take precautions, but this is what I love to do. I want to be there for my team and do what I have to do as a quarterback to be successful.”–(UPTOWN)

Vick’s interviews all sound alike. He must be playing it safe I guess. Meanwhile, he’d better keep winning in Philly because those fans hate losing. If the Eagles fall against their much hated division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, Sunday night, the chorus of people saying he’s a $100 million flop is gonna get louder.

Drake Covers The Source’s ‘Power’ Issue; Guess What He Calls Kanye West??

He’s got the whole Rap world in his hands, it seems, and now Drake is covering The Source Magazine’s ‘Power 30′ issue, which hits stands on November 15th.

In the cover interview, the Young Money all-star discusses his younger days, including who he grew up admiring in Hip Hop–and that’s no one other than Chicago’s Kanye West, who Drake says he now views as competition:

“When I was a kid trying to figure out what I liked, it was [Kanye] who I related to the most. He was an artist, in every sense, from his cover art to his music,” Drake says. “Now, I would say he was a really great competitor….”–The Source

Obviously, Drake knows he’s a major player but I hope this isn’t some vague way of dragging West into some sort of sales beef or something like that. The last thing we need is another wack ass Rap beef.

Kandi Burruss Briefly Channels Grace Jones In Rolling Out Photo Shoot

Somebody at Rolling Out Magazine decided to try something edgy at the normally cautious publication based here in the A. But they damn sure pushed the envelope on this one.  I mean, they pushed the HELL out of that envelope. I’m all for trying something new and different but let’s be reasonable.

This photo (at left) of Kandi Burruss is frightening. I get the Dominatrix theme and I hear she has a line of sex toys she’s promoting but…DAMN. Kandi looks like Grace Jones impersonating Cat Woman in some sort of weird, 1980s, East German bondage flick. There’s also the faint air of Tina Turner in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome working here as well.

Here’s a better, sexier photo from the exact same shoot:

Now that’s a beautiful picture. Its classy, elegant, timeless. That’s how we like to see Kandi, right?

Word to Kandi: Unless she has plans to scare the living hell out of kids on Halloween, lose the cat suit and Gothic make-up, please.

Still an ‘Atlanta Housewife’, Kandi has her very own reality show coming soon on Bravo and she’s featured on the cover of the new issue of Rolling Out.

Lil Wayne & Eminem Share GQ Cover With Keith Richards

Rappers Lil Wayne and Eminem share the November cover of ‘GQ’ Magazine with music legend Keith Richards. The newest issue features a bunch of famous but sometimes tragic artists in its 46-person roster that the mag calls ‘The Survivors’.

The mag labels these people survivors after basically saying they’re a bunch of has-beens, soon-to-be has beens, junkies and criminals. But GQ says through their many combined adversities, all 46 have managed to stay afloat or, never “stopped rocking”.

Erykah Badu is featured as well. That’s understandable because the one-time Neo Soul Queen had to strip naked and run through a Dallas street last year just to get the attention of a public that seemed to have been OK with leaving her music for dead.

Rapper Raekwon is also featured. I guess he’s a survivor because he manages to sell a ton of records that hardly anybody can name or admits to listening to? I dunno, but don’t quote me on that.

All 46 people will have a chance to tell their stories in daily interviews made available by GQ. The first one up is Eminem, which you can catch here.

50 Cent Covers Jet Magazine, Talks Fatherhood And ‘Street Kings’

50 Cent covers the new issue of Jet Magazine and gives some insight into his relationship with his 15 year old son, who looks just like his famous Rap mogul dad.

“My son is 15, and I have conversations with him about things like this. He isn’t being bullied, but he meets people who have expectations of him because of the aggressive energy that I have and the content of the material I create. They look at him like he’s supposed to be like that,” he shares. “But he’s not. He doesn’t even know what it feels like to need for something. When we didn’t have any money, he was too young to notice.”

50 Cent also shares his vision for ‘Street Kings’, an initiative he reportedly started to feed a billion hungry kids.

Rihanna Gets Nude For ‘Esquire’; Calls Chris Brown “Incredible”

Pop singer Rihanna bares a part of her soul–and most of her body–in the November “Sexiest Women Alive” issue of ‘Esquire Magazine’. She gets into some interesting topics but her words on former flame Chis Brown is getting the most attention:

“It’s incredible to see how he pulled out of it the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him, you know? I really like the music he’s putting out. I’m a fan of his stuff. I’ve always been a fan. Obviously, I had some resentment toward him for a while, for obvious reasons. But I’ve put that behind me. It was taking up too much of my time. It was too much anger. I’m really excited to see the breakthrough he’s had in his career. I would never wish anything horrible for him. Never. I never have.”

A lot of people think Rihanna has yet to get over the man who famously battered her before that awards show three years ago. This interview doesn’t exactly put that notion to rest.

Lil Wayne Covers Vibe; Talks Drake, Jay-Z

Rap superstar and budding mogul Lil Wayne once again graces the cover of VIBE Magazine.

Its always interesting to hear what Wayne has to say about the world around him. On competition in the Rap Game:

“There’s no competition [with any artists]. Music isn’t about competition no more. All the gangster rappers are happy, all the skateboard rappers are happy, all the white rappers are happy… Everybody just happy to do music these days. There are no problems. That shit died a long time ago with them old-ass rappers. We are just making music, making money and having fun feeding our families. Competition is for the old guys.”

Oh, yeah? well what about that Jay-Z thing that seems to be brewing?

Well, I’m a man. I believe as a man you should know that. Every man should know the repercussions and consequences behind whatever they do before they do it. And of course, I know there won’t be any repercussions behind what I did.

On competing with fellow Young Money artist Drake:

I don’t look at it like that. Drake is my artist. If he wasn’t my artist, then yeah maybe. But that’s my artist. He’s not [just] a friend. We’re more than friends. It’s business. It would be impossible for it to be a competition. I mean, I’m the guy’s boss.
