The Denver Broncos Winning On “Tim Tebow Time”
There seem to be just as many people who don’t like him as there are people who love him. He wears his religion on his sleeve, and doesn’t have a problem praying publicly during plays, which has drawn criticism from some quarters.
But Tim Tebow isn’t stressed by his haters. And it looks like Somebody Up There is listening to him. And answering his prayers.
No doubt, Tebow has been a blessing to the once-woeful Broncos, who signed the vaunted former Florida Gators quarterback last year, only to inexplicably sit him on the sidelines. But headed for what was sure to be another losing season, the Broncos finally suited up Tebow and let him loose. And now the team’s season has turned around: The Broncos have won 4 of their last 5 games under Tebow, and are now in playoff contention. And the Broncos all of a sudden look like a dangerous team.
Meanwhile, in other NFL news, things aren’t so bright for head coaches in San Diego and Philly: Norv Turner, the coach of the former, is headed for all but certain banishment, thanks to his team’s lousy quarterback play and dismal record; Andy Reid, the coach of the latter, might be unemployed as well, espeicially if Philadelphia ends up with a losing record, which is beginning to look like a looming possibility.
Memo To San Diego Chargers: Bench Phillip Rivers
He used to be mentioned among the elite but all San Diego Chargers Quarterback Phillip Rivers is these days is a lousy thrower who happens to be a mega-interception machine.
And thanks to #17′s slippery fingers, the once feared Chargers have worked their way to last place in their division after dropping another game–their fifth in a row–thanks to two critical interceptions thrown by Rivers.
Its never easy for a team to recognize when a player is no longer effective, especially when its the team center. But it is what is and the Chargers clearly won’t be going very far with Rivers playing like that.
It probably won’t get any better. He’s been there 7 seasons but has led the Chargers to 5 playoff appearances during that time. However, the team hasn’t made it to a championship game, let alone a Super Bowl, with Rivers under center. Last year, they didn’t even make the playoffs at all. So even at his best, Rivers may not be the QB they need to go far.
Bottom line: Bench Rivers. Make him earn his starting position. Fans in SD probably agree. But the Chargers don’t have to rush the decision. In just a few weeks, when the season is over for them and they’re all at home watching the playoffs on their Plasma TVs, they can think about benching Rivers then.
And they can also thank him for their losing-ass record, too.

Will The Green Bay Packers Go Undefeated This Year??
Watching any Green Bay Packers game this year, you’ll basically have to endure 3 hours of sportscasters gushing with continual, non-stop praise of each and every player on their squad–especially and nauseatingly so, Aaron Rodgers.
It sucks if you’re a fan of any of the other teams the Packers will face this year because your squad will get no love from biased sports writers, sportscasters and the referees, who we all know cheat their asses off anyway.
Unofficially, the NFL has coronated the Packers to take the 2011 season. But I don’t think so.
The Packers are good, but they’re not unbeatable. I’m thinking all the ass kissing from sports people they perpetually get is giving them a massive ego, especially since they won last season’s Super Bowl. This makes them a target for a less-talked about team looking to knock them off their pedestal.
Remember, I’m the one who told you the Eagles were overhyped and might flop before the season started, back when everybody thought they were a dream team. Now look at ‘em.
I say the Packers fall short of the 2012 Super Bowl. How ’bout you?

Forbes: Detroit Lions Owner Worst In Entire NFL
Even though the Detroit Lions are having a remarkable season, the team is still losing money. In 2010, the Lions were the only NFL franchise to not generate a profit. And now Forbes might have the answer why: According to the money magazine, the Lions’ owner, William Clay Ford, Sr., grandson to automotive pioneer Henry Ford, is the league’s worst owner.
Forbes doesn’t go into many details about how they came up to this conclusion but it should be noted that Detroit has a very high unemployment rate and has suffered through a serious economic downturn for years. So that means a lot of people can’t even afford the often high price of NFL tickets.
Plus, the Lions are saddled with a less than ideal stadium financing arrangement.
And also, Ford only recently seemed serious about turning the Lions into a winning team. For years, the Lions were mired in the NFL basement and Ford seemed intent on not spending money for any big-name players who draw crowds. Nobody wants to pay to see their team get their asses handed to ‘em every week. But the 2011 Lions are winning with a lot of talent on the roster so it might just be a matter of time before things turn around.
Steelers Fans Stunned: Ravens Thrash Steelers, Big Ben Throws 3 INTs
Before I go there, for the sake of disclosure, I have to tell you that the Ravens are one of my longtime, favorite squads (along with the 49ers/Falcons/Bears/Chargers). That said, Pittsburgh Steelers fans everywhere are in disbelief today, stunned by the routing that Big Ben and the eternally over-hyped Pittsburgh Steelers got today in Baltimore.
Turnovers were the name of Pittsburgh’s game today as the Ravens made the AFC champions look like amateurs on the field today, vanquishing the vaunted Steelers’ defense and posting a 35-7 victory that could have been even worse.
Its the worst opening season loss the Steelers have ever suffered, and the first they dropped since 2003.
For Ravens fans, gone were the bitter memories of last season’s divisional loss, which crushed the hearts of Baltimore fans who once again watched the Steelers put an end to yet another promising Ravens season. The Ravens, who entered the game with one question mark that always seems to define its postseason hopes, can they dominate the Pittsburgh Steelers and handily so?, answered with a big, resounding YES.
Many obseervers believe the only team standing in the way of a Ravens championship is the Steelers, since everybody knows the Ravens are one of only two teams in the AFC (the other the Chargers) who can match up against the explosive Patriots.
That said, the Steelers and Ravens will meet again in the regular season and perhaps in the postseason as well. Game on.

Angst In The A: Are Falcons Gonna Be The Biggest Disappointment Of The NFL Season??
The Atlanta Falcons started the new NFL season in the same fashion that they ended the last one–with a disastrous showing and an unexpected and brutal loss.
This one came at the hands of yet another NFC North franchise, the Chicago Bears, who came into the game 3 point underdogs against the Falcons, who finished last season 13-3 atop the NFC.
Everything that could be done wrong was done wrong by the Falcons and much-hyped quarterback, Matt Ryan, who was sacked 5 times. The team that was supposed to debut an explosive offense ran into a hurricane in the Windy City–and only managed one touchdown all day, a defensive one, that fell into the hands of Kim Zolciak’s baby daddy, Kroy Biermann.
None of the Falcons’ famous players shined today. Manhandled and humiliated, they were dragged around the field and ultimately fell 30-12 to the Bears.
With Mike Vick and the Eagles coming to town next week, they won’t have much time to prepare for a turnaround.
Note: The Eagles have not had a problem beating the Falcons for quite some time now, even when Vick himself played in Atlanta.
And now, fans of the Falcons are now predisposed to a stunning possibility: The team that was expected to take it all last year, and this year as well, could end up being the biggest bust of the new NFL season. How the fuck is this possible?
It should be noted that few teams make it to the playoffs after starting 0-2. A loss to the eagles next week, then one to the upstart Tampa Bay Bucs, and another to the Green Bay Packers, all coming to the A in the next few weeks, could spell disaster for the Dirty Birds, who just might suddenly and inexplicably find themselves in a nasty hole–and watching the race to the postseason from outside the looking glass.

Jacksonville Jaguars Stun Football World; Cut QB Garrard Days Before Season Kicks Off
Troubling news for Jacksonville Jaguars fan: Starting quarterback David Garrard was released today. Its a surprising move that comes just days away from the Jaguars season opener against longtime rival, the Tennessee Titans.
Evidently, the Jags were anxious to move on from the lackluster Garrard, who never emerged as the elite QB the Jags had banked on. Last season, the team finished a dismal 8-8.
But the move shouldn’t surprise Garrard; ironically, he earned the job after former QB Byron Leftwich was unceremoniously dumped by the Jaguars in 2007, days before regular season kickoff. Just days ago, coach Jack Del Rio–who many see as next in line to get the axe–assured fans Garrard would be the team’s starter. Boom-yah.
Garrard had been frequently criticized by fans, many of whom have been calling for his head for awhile now. Obviously, team officials finally decided he had to go.
Reports say the Jags will save $9 million after giving Garrard the axe. Several other teams are said to now be interested in acquiring him.

Eagles Fans Will Be Pissed If Team Doesn’t Live Up To Hype
The team that’s getting the most press in the NFL’s off-season is the Philadelphia Eagles. And with a number of high-profile additions to its already talent-filled roster, its really no surprise.
And the Eagles are used to making headline news, especially after they took in the then-troubled Mike Vick, who’d just gotten out of federal prison on dog fighting charges. The controversial move not only kept the Eagles at the top of sports news, but it paid dividends after Vick, following a short quarterback controversy, led the team to a playoff appearance.
The Eagles were later defeated by the eventual Super Bowl-winning Green Bay Packers in the first round of the playoffs.
These days, the Eagles own the hype machine. But what’s gonna happen when the rubber hits the road–and those feel hit the AstroTurf?
Fans and sports casters have already put the Eagles in the next Super Bowl. And maybe a few more after that one. But I think they are putting the cart way before the horse.
