Philadelphia Eagles Using DeSean Jackson As A Scapegoat

Now that the Philadelphia Eagles’ dream season is over in the midst of a turmoil-filled nightmare, sports tongues are wagging about the future of coach Andy Reid and two-time pro bowler DeSean Jackson.

Reid will probably get a pass; Jackson probably won’t. You see, the Eagles have discovered that they aren’t nearly as good as they thought they were–and on top of that, they paid way too much for veteran players who haven’t exactly showed out this season. That includes Michael Vick (whose been constantly injured and on ice) and Vince Young (who all of a sudden can’t throw or run).

But the Eagles appear to have decided to lay their woes at the feet of one player: #10.

Could New Owner Move Jags To L.A.??

The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the newest franchises in the NFL, having been part of the league short of 20 years. But owner Wayne Weaver has sold the team after many years of promising he wouldn’t. That has led some to think the Jaguars could be heading out West.

The main reason for the speculation of an imminent move comes down, not surprisingly, to cash money: The Jaguars play in the league’s smallest commercial market. City residents seem to have much more affinity for college football–namely the Gainesville-based Florida Gators–than the Jaguars. Because of that, the team has struggled to sell tickets and has a history of blackouts. (more…)

Amare’s Right: NBA Players Should Form Their Own League

Peep this video from a couple weeks back where ESPN sports analysts discuss what Amare Stoudemire famously said earlier this month: NBA players might need to form their own basketball league because this lockout is ridiculous.

Fans of the NBA, not to mention the people behind the scenes who don’t get the million dollar+ paychecks but depend on the sport to put food on the table, are disgusted with this whole lockout situation. And if you take the current owners and current corporate system out of the mix, especially since its even more greedy than some of the greedy ass players, then you might have something worth watching.

But that might never happen. And the latest news is that an agreement to end the lockout might be coming any day now. That probably means Amare’s threat struck somebody’s nerve.

Is Detroit’s Ndamukong Suh The NFL’s Dirtiest Player??

This past Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons stormed into the Motor City and manhandled the hyped-up Detroit Lions on their own turf, and in the process, nearly shut down the Lions’ vaunted offense.

But the loss is just part of the story. Its the accusations made during the game which are turning heads. That’s because Lions’ defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has come under fire for some alleged dirty tactics on the field.

And the controversy surrounding that game and that player, in particular, are making sports news headlines.

During the Falcons/Lions game, Suh was penalized for an ugly face mask on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan that almost gave the QB whiplash.

And Suh got into a few visible scuffles with Falcons players that had to be broken up by referees.

And after Matt Ryan was hurt on a play that originally looked like a season-ending knee injury, Ndamukong Suh reportedly kicked Ryan’s feet as the QB laid sprawled out on the turf in intense pain. Falcons players say Suh said “Get that bitch off the field”, and “Go get the cart”. Its also been reported that Suh called Ryan a “pussy”.

Suh, for his part, has denied this.

Benched Again: Its Over For Donovan McNabb

Donovan McNabb has been down this road before. The Eagles. The Redskins. And now the Vikings. Interceptions. Sacks. Limited production. Benched.

McNabb played another pitiful game last Monday, this time against the Chicago Bears. And the Vikings lost again–for the 5th time this season– and this one was a blowout 39-10 loss.

McNabb–the 13 year veteran–got benched in the second half. That says it all: McNabb’s fate as a starting QB is sealed.

Watching McNabb get chased down and sacked over and over again was too much for even his Mama, who was in the stands and was seen leaving the stadium early once the carnage became too great to endure:

Donovan McNabb was once a mighty quarterback, but even then he had doubters. He took the Eagles to the Super Bowl (once, and lost) and many fans still wanted him to be traded.

And these days, fans in Minnesota are pissed that McNabb finds plenty of time to enjoy lingerie football, but can’t win a damn game for the Vikings.

One thing is sure: He’ll be 35 years old next month and is running out of teams that want an old quarterback who can’t win games. The fans are over McNabb and obviously, so are the coaches. Its time for McNabb to collect that big ass pension and watch those half naked ladies on Direct TV at home.

Bernard Hopkins: They Want Me Out Of Boxing

Boxing’s decline continued last night as ageless champion Bernard Hopkins lost his tittle to a shit-talking Chad Dawson amid yet another controversial ruling.

Hopkins and Dawson got tangled up and in a kindergarten-style wrestling move, Dawson lifted Hopkins up and hurled him to the ground, where it looks like Hopkins injured his elbow.

Age might have finally caught up with the 46 year old Hopkins because he then sat there dazed and helpless, doubtlessly pissed off and unable to go on in the fight.

The referee got loud boos when he declared the move a TKO and not a foul, much to the confusion of paying viewers who thought they came to–or tuned into–see a boxing match, not mixed martial arts.

So in the end, Hopkins lost his title AND he gets a TKO on his record (52-6-2) to boot.

This drama unfolded in the 2nd round of the fight. But up until then, neither man was raising hell in the ring anyway.

Its safe to say that with every fight, boxing is losing more and more credibility as a sport, in part due to lousy referees and silly rulings like this one.

Is Mike Vick In Trouble In Philly??

Now that the Philadelphia Eagles “Dream Team” is turning into one ugly ass nightmare, football fans in the “City of Brotherly Love” are getting stereotypically restless-and are calling for heads to roll.

One of those heads is quarterback Mike Vick, the man who they agreed to pay $100 million not too long ago. Vick was expected to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory, or two, or three, or more. Instead, Vick is throwing countless interceptions, fumbling balls, racking up sacks and spends a lot of his time running for dear life on the football field because his offensive line couldn’t stop a purse snatcher running on one leg. And now the Eagles are 1-4 and in real danger of missing the playoffs.

But, its not all Vick’s fault–and his job is safe. However, Philly fans don’t mind getting rid of QBs. Just ask Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb, both of whom were banished by the Eagles.

Instead, though, Coach Andy Reid is gonna be the one to ride for this disaster. His weekly act of contrition, falling on his sword and taking the blame while the Eagles squad slips into ever-deepening disarray, is an old act and its seriously wearing on fans’ and team officials’ nerves. And after 13 seasons and no Super Bowl victory, a lot of people want Reid gone–for real this time–and as soon as like yesterday.

So unless things change, and extremely quickly, Reid is likely to be out of there after this season. In contrast, Vick is gonna be sitting pretty with that hundred mill no matter what happens so he doesn’t have a thing to worry about. At least not this year anyway.

Mike Vick: NFL Refs Not Doing Their Jobs

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick injured his right hand yesterday in a bruising loss to the Eagles’ division rival the New York Giants.

Its the second week in a row that the Pro-Bowl quarterback has been injured; last week, he suffered a concussion against the Atlanta Falcons.

Vick was quick to say the he wasn’t blaming the game’s referees for his injured, non-throwing hand before he, actually, blamed the referees for the reported “deep bruise” to his non-throwing, injured hand:

“The refs have to do their job, and I’m not blaming the referees by any stretch, so let’s not get it twisted here,” Vick said. “I’m just saying I think everybody on the field should do their job.”
“If you look at all the replays,” Vick said, “I’m on the ground every time, and it’s unfortunate for myself, and it’s unfortunate for my team. . . . Every time I throw the ball, I’m on the ground, getting hit in the head, and I don’t know why.”–(Mike Vick)

Vick seems to think he’s being left for dead on the field by the refs simply because he’s Mike Vick. I don’t agree with that. But I do agree that he has a point: NFL referees have gotten extremely lousy at calling penalties AND helping protect the quarterback. Its a long-standing problem that’s only gotten extremely worse over the last few seasons.

However, Vick can’t blame all of his injuries on the refs. Truth be told, the Eagles offensive line leaves much to be desired in efficiency and capability. But if changes aren’t made–and fast–Vick is right; a player is gonna end up seriously hurt on the football field.
